Fazliddin Djamalov, Senior Research Fellow at the IAIS Centre for American Studies, delivered an insightful presentation at the “Central Asian Regionalism in the Vertex of the EU, Russia, and China” conference hosted by KIMEP University. His presentation, entitled “Expanding Beyond Conventional Connections: Central Asian Nations Establish New Partnerships”, was based on a research paper co-authored with Non-Visiting Research Fellow Alexander Schrier and Junior Researcher Malika Khakimova.
The conference, held on November 14-15, 2024, in Almaty, Kazakhstan, was organised as part of the Jean Monnet project “EU — Central Asia Relations: New Horizons for Regional Integration, Partnership and Cooperation (EUCA-RIPC)”. The event brought together experts from academia, think tanks, and policy-making circles to discuss critical themes surrounding regional integration challenges and the influence of global powers on Central Asia’s geopolitics.
Mr. Djamalov’s presentation focused on the evolving dynamics of Central Asian regional cooperation, emphasising the strategic need for diversifying partnerships beyond traditional alliances. His analysis delved into how Central Asian nations are leveraging new diplomatic, economic, and infrastructural connections to enhance regional stability and economic development.
This collaborative research adds a significant perspective to the discourse on Central Asian integration, highlighting the region’s potential to establish robust partnerships that transcend conventional geopolitical alignments. Their findings contribute to a broader understanding of the shifting landscape of Central Asian diplomacy in an era marked by heightened global competition and regional realignments.
