We have successfully convened the latest workshop of our Frontier Talks series, focusing on Artificial Intelligence in Research and Education. Led by Mushtariy Usmonova, the workshop brought together interested parties to interrogate the rapidly evolving role of AI within academic and pedagogical settings.
Ms. Usmonova opened the session with a comprehensive survey of cutting-edge machine-learning techniques, demonstrating how tools such as natural-language processing can accelerate literature reviews, uncover emergent research trends, and even generate novel hypotheses. Attendees then engaged in hands-on exercises with open-source AI platforms, practising model validation, discussing ethical safeguards, and exploring strategies for integrating AI insights into traditional curricula. The speaker demonstrated how these tools can accelerate systematic reviews, uncover emergent research trends, and even generate novel hypotheses, setting the stage for participants to experiment hands-on.
Building on this foundation, attendees explored five flagship AI-powered projects tailored for higher education:
The spirited debates followed the presentation. Participants challenged one another on pressing issues — policy frameworks, data privacy, the mitigation of algorithmic bias, and the imperative of professional development for educators in an AI-driven landscape. These discussions underscored not only the urgency of establishing robust governance frameworks but also the potential for AI to redefine both the research process and classroom dynamics.
IAIS looks forward to continuing this vital conversation in future Frontier Talks sessions, as we remain steadfast in our commitment to pioneering interdisciplinary dialogue at the intersection of technology and international studies.
