On May 13, an international roundtable discussion was held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on the topic “Central Asia and the New Security Architecture in Eurasia”. The event was attended by staff from the Institute for Advanced International Studies at UWED, as well as representatives from the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Center for Foreign Policy Studies and International Initiatives, and the International Institute of Central Asia.
The roundtable addressed pressing issues of regional and international security, including water security challenges in Central Asia, existing challenges and risks, as well as prospects for the region’s sustainable development. Particular attention was paid to cooperation between the countries of the region and Russia within the framework of Eurasian interactions, as well as to the importance of the fuel and energy sector as a key factor in the socio-economic development of the region’s states.
Participants also discussed issues of energy security and economic sustainability in Central Asian countries amid global transformations, the changing role of external actors in the region, the potential for developing business dialogue between the youth of Russia and Uzbekistan, as well as the current state of Sino-Afghan cooperation in the context of ensuring regional security. Special attention was paid to the impact of the Iranian crisis on the energy market, with a focus on the countries of Central Asia and China.
Following the event, participants expressed interest in further developing scientific cooperation and agreed to continue holding such meetings in both online and offline formats.
