As part of ongoing efforts to deepen academic collaboration between Uzbekistan and Türkiye, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) and the Institute for Advanced International Studies (IAIS) held a productive meeting with Ebubekir Aydin, Education Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Tashkent.
The UWED-IAIS delegation was headed by First Vice-Rector of UWED and Director of IAIS, Akram Umarov, joined by Durbek Amanov, Head of the Center for European Studies, IAIS Research Fellows Mekhriniso Abdurasulova and Mushtariy Usmonova, as well as Gavkhar Mirkhalilova, Head of UWED’s Office for International Academic Cooperation.
During the meeting, the sides explored concrete mechanisms to expand student and academic exchanges between UWED and Turkish universities. Mr Aydin expressed strong interest in facilitating more dynamic educational links and welcomed proposals for new bilateral programs and structured institutional partnerships.
The discussion also touched upon the development of joint research platforms, and mutual participation in scientific conferences and workshops. Both sides emphasized the importance of fostering direct connections between Uzbek and Turkish academic communities, including through the integration of Turkish visiting professors into UWED’s academic life. Particular attention was given to launching a new Turkish-Uzbek Research Forum aimed at cultivating deeper mutual understanding, intercultural competencies, and joint project opportunities among scholars of both nations. In addition, Dr Umarov and Mr Aydin discussed UWED’s participation in Türkiye’s education cooperation frameworks.
