On March 14, 2023, Deputy Director of the UWED Diplomatic Academy A. Khaydarov and Deputy Director of the Institute for Advanced International Studies(IAIS) A. Umarov met with a delegation led by the Head of the Network for Combating Terrorism and Extremism in Asia of the UK Department of Foreign Affairs and International Development K. Felton.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Uzbekistan has sufficient potential to counter and prevent threats related to extremism and terrorism emanating from Afghanistan. Undoubtedly, it was noted that the situation in Afghanistan could lead to other negative situations, where the main driving force could be the opposing ideas of terrorist and extremist organizations in the country, and at the same time, attempts to Pashtunize the Taliban government in Afghanistan could further exacerbate the situation in the country, especially in its northern regions.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was signed on the implementation of the project "Fighting Terrorism and Extremism in Central Asia", implemented by IAIS at the expense of British grant funds. As part of the project, the institute will prepare a number of analytical materials on this topic, as well as organize a regional round table.
