On the Results of Early Parliamentary Elections in France

After disappointing results for French government in the European Parliament elections in June this year, Emmanuel Macron announced early parliamentary elections, which were held in two rounds on June, 31 and July, 7.

 


In the second round of parliamentary elections, none of the main political forces was able to obtain an absolute majority. Marine Le Pen's far-right party unexpectedly came third, behind the presidential alliance Ensemble and the left-wing New Popular Front bloc. The leftist bloc and supporters of President Macron mobilised against Le Pen, leading to a decline in her support.

 


The election has created a unique political situation in the country, requiring intense negotiations to form a new government.
