In recent years, the EU has shifted how it views Central Asia. That effort culminated recently with the first EU- Central Asia leaders summit.
At the end of October 2022, President of the European Council Charles Michel paid his first official visit to Astana and held a summit with the leaders of all five Central Asian states — Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
