From October 14 to 16, 2026, Dr. Gavkhar Sultanova, Head of the Center for Economic Diplomacy at the Institute for Advanced International Studies and Associate Professor in the Department of International Economics, participated in the interregional geoeconomic workshop “Beyond 2030: Restoring Initiative Through Partnerships in the Region,” organized by the Asia-Pacific Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Bangkok, Thailand.
The event brought together representatives from more than 20 countries. Discussions addressed the effects of geoeconomic competition on national development, trade restrictions and technological rivalry, changing supply chains, and the adaptation of national development models. Sessions also focused on international partnerships in trade, debt restructuring, climate, health, and critical minerals, as well as on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals amid geopolitical tensions.
Participation in the Lab provided an opportunity to learn about the experiences of different countries and approaches to strengthening international cooperation in a changing geoeconomic environment. The event’s materials and analytical insights may inform IAIS research and educational activities, including work on international trade, economic diplomacy, and Uzbekistan’s sustainable development.
