On 25 June, a seminar on Global Dialogue on Combating Extremism and Terrorism in Central and South Asia was held. The event was co-organized by the Institute for Advanced International Studies (IAIS) at UWED and the Near East South Asia Strategic Studies Centre (NESA) at the National Defense University of the United States.

During the first session, participants discussed national strategies for countering terrorism, the characteristics of the modern terrorist landscape, and Uzbekistan’s experience in the humanitarian repatriation and social rehabilitation of citizens returning from conflict zones. A model of interagency cooperation aimed at restoring rights, psychological adaptation, and preventing re-radicalization was presented.

The second session focused on regional security issues. Political, diplomatic and humanitarian challenges were discussed, including instability in Afghanistan and its implications for Central Asia. Topics such as regional development, transport connectivity and the growing role of bilateral and multilateral cooperation were also addressed. Special emphasis was placed on the need for a sustainable approach to transboundary water management.

Participants stressed the importance of further expert dialogue, coordination of efforts to combat extremism and terrorism, and intensification of academic and analytical exchanges between countries in the region.
