On October 16 the Institute for Advanced International Studies (IAIS) hosted a seminar titled “Publishing in High-Impact Academic Journals: Research Design, Academic Writing and Publication Strategy” as part of its Frontier Talks academic seminar series. The seminar featured Visiting Research Fellow Dr Allison D. Evans from the University of Nevada, Reno.
The presentation explored the methodological and practical aspects of publishing research in internationally recognised academic journals, with particular emphasis on research design, manuscript preparation, and effective publication strategies. Drawing on examples from Europe-Asia Studies, Comparative Politics, and Post-Soviet Affairs, the speaker examined journal specialisation, editorial requirements, and key criteria for preparing manuscripts for publication.
Particular attention was given to structuring academic articles, formulating research questions, identifying gaps in existing literature, developing appropriate methodologies, and presenting empirical findings supported by rigorous evidence.
Dr Evans also highlighted the importance of strategic journal selection, preparing for potential rejection, and refining manuscripts in accordance with journal-specific submission requirements.
The seminar concluded by emphasising that rigorous research design, adherence to academic writing standards, and a well-defined publication strategy are essential for enhancing the international competitiveness and visibility of scholarly research.
