On September 12–13 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Odil Gafarov, Deputy Director of the Institute for Advanced International Studies (IAIS) at UWED, took part in the concluding U.S.-Central Asia Research Network Capstone Conference. The event, organized by American Councils in collaboration with CAPS UNLOCK, brought together representatives of academic institutions, think tanks, government agencies, and international organizations to discuss current research findings and opportunities for regional cooperation.
The conference showcased the results of a two-year U.S.-CARNet project, highlighting collaborative research between Central Asian and American scholars. Presentations covered a wide spectrum of themes, including regional connectivity, educational exchanges, and cultural cooperation. Discussions demonstrated the growing importance of joint initiatives that contribute to a deeper understanding of Central Asia’s role in global and regional affairs.
Throughout the sessions, participants reflected on the evolving academic and expert networks linking Central Asia with the United States. Researchers shared studies that addressed pressing questions in fields such as economic development, infrastructure, and cultural heritage. The presentations underscored the potential of cross-border collaboration in generating policy-relevant knowledge and strengthening institutional partnerships.
Odil Gafarov’s participation in the conference allowed IAIS to engage with a broad circle of international scholars and practitioners, contributing to the expansion of professional contacts and exchanging perspectives on issues of mutual interest. The U.S.-CARNet Capstone Conference reaffirmed the value of sustained academic collaboration and knowledge exchange.
