Meeting with the Representative of the International Water Management Institute

Tashkent, Uzbekistan – 12 August 2024. On August 12 this year Dr. Akram Umarov, First Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), and Mr. Shakhboz Akhmedov, Deputy Director of the Institute for Advanced International Studies under UWED, held a meeting with Dr. Barbara Janusz-Pawletta, Representative of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Uzbekistan.

 

The meeting convened to explore cooperation opportunities in advancing water diplomacy and related educational initiatives highlighting the growing importance of transboundary water management in addressing regional and global challenges. Additionally, the sides emphasized the significance of education and capacity-building in this field. They explored the development of specialized training programs and academic courses designed to equip future diplomats, policymakers, and water resource managers with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate complex water-related issues.

 

The meeting concluded with a commitment to further dialogue and the creation of a framework for ongoing collaboration, aiming to foster a more integrated and sustainable approach to regional water diplomacy in Central Asia.
