Webinar with Kroc Institute. Afghanistan and Central Asia: Taliban Rule, Economic Projects, and Regional Stability

The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, United States), along with the Institute for Advanced International Studies (IAIS) at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED, Tashkent, Uzbekistan), and Andiana Foundation (Washington DC, United States), will host an insightful webinar, entitled “Afghanistan and Central Asia: Taliban Rule, Economic Projects, and Regional Stability”. Moderated by the First Vice-Rector of UWED and Deputy Director of IAIS, Akram Umarov, this event aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of the challenges and opportunities arising from Afghanistan’s evolving political and economic landscape under Taliban governance.

The webinar will feature prominent experts, each bringing unique perspectives on Afghanistan’s governance and its broader regional implications:

  • An economic analyst and former Deputy Minister of Commerce for Afghanistan, Sulaiman Bin Shah offers firsthand insights into Afghanistan’s economic landscape under the Taliban, including challenges in trade and regional partnerships.
  • As the Head of the Centre for Afghanistan and South Asian Studies at IAIS, Hamza Boltaev specializes in Central Asia’s strategic engagement with Afghanistan. His analysis bridges economic cooperation and security imperatives.
  • Founder and President of the Andiana Foundation, Nilofar Sakhi brings her expertise in humanitarian and peacebuilding initiatives. Her contributions focus on grassroots efforts to foster stability and social cohesion within Afghanistan.
  • A leading researcher at IAIS’s Centre for Anthropology and Conflict Studies, Rustam Mukhmudov examines the socio-cultural dimensions of conflict in Afghanistan and its implications for regional security frameworks.
  • Currently pursuing a Master of Global Affairs with a focus on International Peace Studies, Shokhinakhon Bakhromova provides a fresh academic perspective on peacebuilding and advancing regional stability.
